Executive Director – Kassie Fotiadis

Concentration: Public Policy

Languages: Advanced knowledge of Greek and Spanish; Conversational knowledge of French; Basic knowledge of Turkish and Mandarin

Kassie is a junior hailing from Montclair, New Jersey. She is studying Public Policy as part of Brown’s Engaged Scholars Program. When she’s not learning new languages, Kassie is a captain of Brown’s Mock Trial team, a Meiklejohn Peer Adviser, and a volunteer at a local domestic violence shelter. Kassie enjoys eating peanut butter out of the jar, cuddling with friends, and smashing the patriarchy.

Concentration: Economics and Development Studies

Languages: Spanish (Bilingual), French (Conversational)

Gaby is a senior at Brown concentrating in Economics and Development Studies. She is originally from Barranquilla, Colombia but has lived in Tampa, Florida since 2002. At Brown, she’s involved with SLE and is a TA for the Hispanic Studies department. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and trying new food.

Claudia is concentrating in International Relations with a focus on Russia. She is also the volunteer coordinator of Safe House: Students Against Domestic Violence.

Class of 2019

Concentration: Linguistics and Public Policy

Languages: Not fluent in anything other than English — yet. But I speak or read varying amounts of Spanish, Swedish, French, Latin, and Old English

Sandy is a sophomore at Brown University studying linguistics and public policy. Outside of SLE, he debates competitively with the Brown Debating Union, writes for the Brown Political Review, edits the Aldus Journal of Translation, is involved with the Brown Immigrant Rights Coalition and Brown Student Labor Alliance, works with Brown Model UN on educational outreach, writes poetry with a student group at Brown, and plays the clarinet. His interests range from baby goats to heavy metal to medieval manuscript studies.

Sam Kiernan

Concentration: International Relations

Languages: English (native), Spanish (professional fluency), Mandarin Chinese (Intermediate)

Sam is interested in East Asian politics and international affairs. She is a part of Brown’s Student Chinese-English language partner exchange, Brown Mock Trial (eboard and a team captain), and buildOn at Brown. She is also a Meiklejohn peer advisor. She spent her summer in Ireland interning for the Irish Parliament and plans to study abroad again in Beijing in the spring of 2018. She loves satirical comedy, running, and my lord and savior Enrique Iglesias.

Languages: English – Fluent, Arabic – Fluent, French – Fluent, Spanish – Proficient, Portuguese – Proficient, Persian – Proficient

Nathan is a Junior at Brown concentrating in History and Comparative Literature. Outside of classes and SLE, you can find him grading Arabic homework or eating Pop-Tarts.
